hear from people who have experienced local dermatology services, whether themselves, their children, family members, or as carers for someone who has. the reason is that high weald lewes havens clinical commissioning group (ccg) is reviewing dermatology services as part of a joint initiative with east surrey, crawley, horsham and mid sussex ccgs. we need to understand how services can continue to be delivered and improved over the next five years. please find attached a flyer with information about dermatology forum which you are invited to attend at uckfield civic centre on 27th april. please come along and share your views. for those people who can’t attend in person there will be the opportunity to provide feedback via a survey that will be available on the ccg website in it is with much regret that i have to announce the passing of one of long standing members, helen livings, on saturday 3 march 2018. helen was a highly valued member of many local voluntary organisations in the havens and up to a couple of weeks before her death, was a trustee and chair of c.t.l.a – one of helen’s passions. as well as c.t.l.a, helen was also for many years a trustee of kempton house day centre in peacehaven, and we mustn’t forget that she was mayor of peacehaven and a peacehaven town councillor for many years, and very recently had agreed to take up the reins as treasurer at rowe avenue surgery patient participation group. helen’s sudden death came as a huge shock not only to her devoted husband, john and her family, but also to the members of the community that knew her so well, or even not so well. john has now advised of helen’s funeral arrangements – the funeral will take place on thursday 29 march 2018 at 3.30pm at the woodvale crematorium, south chapel, lewes road, brighton bn2 3qb. the family will then return to the telscombe civic centre, 360 south coast road, telscombe cliffs, bn10 7es where you will be more than welcome to attend. john has asked that there be family flowers only – any donations to helen’s charities (c.t.l.a. or kempton house day centre) – these donations may be made direct to: c/o rachel ford at the co-op funeral care office in the meridian centre peacehaven bn10 8bb. there will also be a collection box at the crematorium for lifeboats (helen was rescued from a yacht in her younger sailing days). all are of the services agreed libraries strategy for the future of the service agreed on tuesday 6 march the county council’s cabinet agreed the five year libraries strategic commissioning strategy. this follows the public consultation on a draft strategy last year. the strategy is designed to deliver a modern and sustainable library and information service for east sussex. it is designed to meet current and future needs for the county and to address the challenges the service faces, both in terms of less money to deliver the service but also the reducing demand for libraries across east sussex as a whole. library closures we recognise how much people value well-regarded local services. as part of the strategy, the difficult decision has been made to close langney, mayfield, ore, pevensey bay, polegate, ringmer and willingdon libraries after saturday 5 may 2018. the mobile library service will also stop on this day and financial support to northiam village library. more than 86% of all east sussex residents will be within a 20 minute journey time to a library by public transport and over 99% within a 20 minute journey by car. future ways to access the library and information service we will still provide a network of 17 libraries to serve east sussex residents. our elibrary enables customers to reserve and renew books to collect from a library, as well as downloading ebooks, eaudiobooks and emagazines. customers can also renew items using our automated renewal line 0345 6080195 (24 hours). we run a free home library service for people who cannot easily use a library due to disability or frailty, or are caring for someone who cannot be left. new library services will be available to families with young children in shinewater and east hastings children’s centres, recognising the greater needs within the communities of langney and ore. for customers of the seven libraries which will close and the mobile library, we will shortly be providing information on the full range of alternative ways to access the east sussex library and information service, including the nearest library. new services the libraries strategy includes a number of new services, designed to serve the needs of different groups of residents better within our limited resources. we will expand the range of materials and other resources which are available through the elibrary. we will offer a new community library membership to rural communities. we will increasingly promote our services beyond libraries, through outreach work with other council services and partners. there will be new services for children and young people, including trials of term-time homework clubs for 9 to 13 year olds and study clubs for older students during exam revision periods. we will also offer a range of new free and paid services to local schools. all schools in east sussex will be able to use a free teachers’ library membership, to borrow materials to use in the classroom. we will let you know about these new services in future editions of this enewsletter and on our website . northiam village library is a community run library, which the local community will continue to provide. we will continue to provide the library with some stock through the new community library membership. some one-off funding will also be provided to refurbish the library. to read contribution made by the uk’s 6.5 million unpaid carers – people who look after a relative, friend or neighbour who couldn’t manage without them. each year, care for the carers, along with partner services, organisations and community groups, host a range of events around the county to celebrate carers week and recognise the vital contribution that the estimated 65,000 carers in east sussex make to their families and communities. we are delighted that as part of their ongoing support for the care for the carers building carer friendly communities and to highlight carers week, meridian senior forum are hosting an event to celebrate carers week on wednesday, 13 june 2018 from 10.00am to 1.00pm in the main hall of the meridian centre, peacehaven bn10 8bl. we hope to see as many of you recycling site service consultation – now live – please see message dear stakeholder, i am writing to let you know that the 12-week public consultation on our household waste recycling site service has now started and ends at midnight on 15 may. the online survey is now live on the consultation hub . links to the survey, as well as faqs and the full service review, are available here on our website . we are consulting on these proposals: the introduction of charging for certain waste types that are not ‘household waste’ (i.e. rubble, soil, plasterboard, tyres and asbestos) at the household waste recycling sites the possible closure of the part-time recycling sites at forest row and wadhurst a review of recycling site opening hours against demand for the service we would like
